The Laughing Heart

Your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but it beats the darknes
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances
know them.
take them
you can’t beat death
but you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous the gods wait to delight in you.
I don’t know what it is about Charles Bukowski that makes him shine so. His poetry is an acquired taste; sometimes (to me) it seems unpoetic (whatever that means), flat, a laundry list; other times I marvel at it. He inspired me to this a couple of years ago:

Thank you very much for this post. It accompanied my breakfast cup of coffee.

Hi Ms.Marshall,
Thank you for your comment. I feel as though you took the words right out of my mind. I agree with you. I feel at times that some of his ‘poetry’ sounds more like fragmented monologues. I really like the poems you posted, specifically the first part. I really like the collection of poetry you have on this blog :http://thezenspace.wordpress.com/experience/autumn-2011-showcase/. I’m still checking the rest of your poetry out:) I do hope you are well, stay warm.
Happy Holidays! ML
And to you.
